A life-long student, as well as educator, Frank believed there was always more to learn, as well as countless opportunities to give to others. He began his teaching career at the Linsly Military Institute in West Virginia.  Moving back home, his first teaching job in Ohio was at Riverside High School in Painesville, where he taught English, and coached Football, Wrestling, and Track. He soon moved to Mayfield High School, where he again shared his talents as both teacher and coach, making connections with peers and students that would last a lifetime.

In 1978, Frank moved to Willoughby South. He taught English, coached for many years, and also took on the roles of Athletic Director and Dean of Students. During the 27 years that Frank was at South, he was blessed to witness all 5 of his children attend, and graduate, as Rebels. Among the countless lives that were affected by Frank's particular style of guidance during his tenure at South, his sons were lucky enough to be coached by him.  Frank retired in 2005 (for 2 weeks), and was quickly hired as the Athletic Director at Notre Dame - Cathedral Latin High School in Chardon. His knowledge and years of experience, not to mention his love of bringing out the best in people, made a lasting impression on NDCL sports.

Frank's strength was evident as he dealt with multiple bouts of cancer and heart disease throughout his life. His determination to push through adversity was a model of perseverance. Frank maintained a foundation of integrity through changing times. He believed that, "Doing what is right is not always easy, and doing what is easy is not always right." A commitment to the service of others was at the core of his spirit. Sadly, as he continued his life's work at NDCL, Frank passed away in November of 2017. His Legacy certainly lives on through his wife Wendy, his children and grandchildren. His family, and the countless others who knew him, are living testaments to the man he was.

To honor his memory, and the work he did throughout his life, we have established the Frank Platzar Legacy Fund. Our goal is to continue Frank's mission of helping students, particularly well rounded students, to recognize their own strengths, and to achieve their full potential, by offering scholarships for graduating seniors to continue their education.
